Optional Aquarena Fun Dive on Sat ($30)

Combo- $299 for Diving for Science and Buoyancy Class

SSI recently approved a new Specialty in Advanced Buoyancy Control. This is a diving certification that counts towards your Specialty Diver certification and/or your Advanced Open Water certification. And it’s an excellent stand-alone course if you just want to improve your buoyancy control to make diving more comfortable, relaxed, and enjoyable. You will see your air management, diving comfort, and general confidence soar after you've mastered the finer techniques of buoyancy control.

Some of the topics covered will include:

  • Proper weighting and weight distribution and weight “trimming”
  • Underwater breathing techniques
  • Understanding the lungs as an internal “BCD”
  • Body positioning
  • Maneuvering in tight quarters
  • Changing positions with minimal effort
  • Fin control
  • Proper BCD inflation/deflation
  • Controlled ascents/descents

There’s more, but bottom line, you’ll learn to easily establish neutral buoyancy, thus making you a more comfortable, competent diver and extend your bottom time. The first Advanced Buoyancy Control Specialty course will have class/pool sessions. The certification dives will be at Aquarena Springs in San Marcos. Taking the SSI Advanced Buoyancy Control class will thoroughly prepare you for the buoyancy control obstacle course that you must pass to achieve the Diving For Science certification – by the way, that’s another SSI Specialty class that counts towards your Specialty Diver and/or Advanced Open Water Diver certification. Follow the link below for more information on the Diving for Science program: http://www.aquarena.txstate.edu/diving.html

If you want to take Advanced Buoyancy Control as a stand alone course, the cost is $125.00 (no books to purchase). If you want to take a combo course of Advanced Buoyancy Control PLUS Diving for Science, the total cost will be $299, a savings of $56 (16%; cannot be combined with any other discounts). Purchased separately, the total cost of these two courses is $355.00.  We have every confidence that if you can pass the Advanced Buoyancy Control class, the obstacle course at the Diving for Science program will be a breeze!!

The Texas Rivers Center exhibit has recently opened on the ground floor of the prior Aquarena hotel. This is a perfect opportunity to expose new divers to the water systems, diving opportunities and the water sensitivity of Texas . Please visit the exhibit on your next trip to Aquarena Center.
